LeaveRights Project

Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2026

LeaveRights was built by someone who needed to protect his own medical privacy from an employer. Privacy is not a feature of this site. It is the reason the site exists. This policy explains exactly what happens (and does not happen) with your information when you use LeaveRights.

1. We Do Not Collect Your Data

LeaveRights does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. We do not have a database of users. We do not know who you are, where you work, what conditions you have, or what answers you provide in the rights check assessment.

This is by design, not by limitation. The tools on this site were built to run entirely in your browser so that your information never leaves your device.

2. How the Tools Work

Every interactive tool on LeaveRights operates client-side, meaning all processing happens in your web browser on your own device. Specifically:

  • Rights check assessment: Your answers are processed by JavaScript running in your browser. They are stored temporarily in your browser's session storage so results can be displayed. When you close the tab, the data is gone. It is never sent to any server.
  • Letter templates: Letters are filled in locally in your browser. The text you enter is never transmitted. PDF downloads are generated client-side.
  • State law lookups: State law data is bundled with the website code and loaded into your browser. No server queries are made when you view state information.

3. No Accounts or Authentication

LeaveRights does not have user accounts, passwords, logins, or any form of authentication. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to sign in to. We do not collect email addresses, names, or any other identifying information through the site's tools.

4. Analytics

LeaveRights uses Google Analytics to understand how people find and use the site. Google Analytics collects anonymized data about page views, traffic sources, and general usage patterns. This helps us understand which pages are helpful, where visitors come from, and how to improve the site.

Google Analytics uses cookies to distinguish between visitors. These cookies do not contain personal information. Google Analytics does not give us access to your name, email, employer, medical information, or any answers you provide in the rights check assessment (those never leave your browser).

You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by using your browser's built-in cookie blocking settings.

We do not use:

  • Tracking pixels or web beacons
  • Fingerprinting or device identification
  • Third-party advertising scripts
  • Social media tracking widgets
  • Retargeting or remarketing tools

We do not build user profiles. We do not serve ads. We do not sell or share analytics data with anyone.

5. No Third-Party Data Sharing

We do not share any information with employers, insurance companies, government agencies, third-party leave administrators, advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties. We cannot share what we do not have.

6. Email Communications

LeaveRights offers a referral request form on the Get Help page. If you choose to submit a referral request, the information you provide (your name, email, and the details you share) is sent via email to help@leaverights.com. This is the only feature on the site that transmits data off your device, and it only happens when you explicitly submit the form.

We do not add you to any mailing list. We do not send marketing emails. We do not share your email address with anyone. If we respond to your request, that response comes from a human, not an automated system.

7. Hosting and Server Logs

LeaveRights is hosted on Vercel. As with any website, the hosting provider's servers may automatically record standard access logs, which can include IP addresses, browser type, referring URLs, and timestamps. These logs are maintained by the hosting provider as part of normal web server operation. We do not access, analyze, or use these logs to identify or track individual visitors.

8. External Links

LeaveRights contains links to external websites, including government agencies (.gov sites), legal aid organizations, and research sources. When you click an external link, you leave LeaveRights and are subject to that site's privacy policy. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external websites.

9. Children's Privacy

LeaveRights is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 18. Because we do not collect information from anyone at all, there is no mechanism by which children's data could be gathered.

10. Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Because we do not collect email addresses or have user accounts, we cannot notify you of changes directly. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

11. Contact

If you have questions or concerns about this privacy policy, contact us at help@leaverights.com.
