Terms of Service
Last updated: March 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using LeaveRights (leaverights.com), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the site. Your continued use of LeaveRights after any changes to these terms constitutes acceptance of those changes.
2. Description of Service
LeaveRights is a free educational website that helps individuals understand their potential eligibility for federal and state workplace leave and disability protections. The site provides:
- A rights check assessment tool that evaluates potential eligibility based on user-provided answers
- Letter templates for accommodation requests, leave notifications, and related workplace communications
- Informational guides on federal laws (FMLA, ADA, PWFA) and state leave laws
- Educational blog posts and guides on workplace rights topics
- A referral request form for connecting with legal or therapeutic resources
All assessment tools and letter templates run entirely in your browser. No data is collected, stored, or transmitted (except when you voluntarily submit a referral request via the Get Help page).
3. Not Legal Advice
LeaveRights is not a law firm. The information provided on this site is for general educational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice. No attorney-client relationship is created by using this site, reading its content, using its tools, or submitting a referral request.
The rights check assessment provides a general overview of potential eligibility based on the information you enter. It cannot account for the full complexity of your situation, your employer's specific policies, recent court decisions, or other factors that may affect your rights. Assessment results should be treated as a starting point for understanding your situation, not as a definitive legal determination.
Always consult a qualified employment attorney before taking action based on information from this site, including submitting accommodation requests, filing complaints, taking medical leave, or making decisions about your employment.
4. No Accounts or Data Collection
LeaveRights does not require user accounts, passwords, or any form of registration. We do not collect, store, or transmit personal information through the site's assessment tools or letter templates. For full details on how your information is (and is not) handled, see our Privacy Policy.
5. Letter Templates
LeaveRights provides letter templates for common workplace situations (accommodation requests, FMLA leave notifications, etc.). These templates are starting points, not finished legal documents. They are designed to be customized to your specific situation.
Before sending any letter to your employer, HR department, or leave administrator, we strongly recommend having it reviewed by a qualified employment attorney. A letter that is appropriate in one situation may be counterproductive in another.
6. Intellectual Property
All content on LeaveRights, including text, guides, blog posts, assessment logic, letter templates, and design, is the property of LeaveRights and is protected by applicable copyright laws.
You may use the letter templates for your own personal, non-commercial purposes (that is what they are for). You may share links to any page on the site. You may not reproduce, republish, or redistribute substantial portions of the site's content without written permission.
7. User Conduct
You agree not to:
- Use LeaveRights for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to interfere with the site's operation or infrastructure
- Scrape, crawl, or automatically extract content from the site for commercial purposes
- Misrepresent LeaveRights content as legal advice or as coming from a licensed attorney
- Reproduce or redistribute substantial portions of the site's content without permission
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
LeaveRights is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We do not warrant that the information provided is complete, accurate, or current. Laws change. Court decisions shift interpretations. Employer policies vary. The information on this site may not reflect the most recent legal developments.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, LeaveRights and its owner shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from or related to your use of the site, including but not limited to:
- Actions taken based on information, assessments, or letter templates provided by the site
- Loss of employment, income, or benefits
- Inaccuracies or errors in legal information
- Reliance on assessment results that do not reflect your actual legal situation
- Any outcomes resulting from workplace communications drafted using our templates
This site is a free educational resource. It is not a substitute for professional legal counsel.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LeaveRights and its owner from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorney fees) arising from your use of the site or your violation of these terms.
11. External Links
LeaveRights contains links to third-party websites, including government agencies, legal aid organizations, and research institutions. These links are provided for informational purposes. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or availability of external sites. Inclusion of a link does not imply endorsement.
12. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the site shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in the State of Michigan.
13. Severability
If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Because we do not collect email addresses or have user accounts, we cannot notify you of changes directly. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
