Verified downloads manifest
Make a folder called Case Law/verified/ in your case folder. Save a copy of every opinion you verify there. Keep this manifest as _MANIFEST.md in the same folder, one row per saved file.
# Verified Downloads Manifest
Rule: no case goes into a filing unless it is VERIFIED here with a saved copy.
| Date retrieved | Case | Cite | Court | Source and how retrieved | Local file | Status | Used for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| [date] | [Name v. Name] | [cite] | [court] | [CourtListener API / official court site / Google Scholar, plus the URL] | [Name_Cite_Court_Year_source.txt] | VERIFIED | [the point it supports] |
File naming
Use a name that tells you what the file is without opening it. For example, Smith_v_Jones_123F4d456_2dCir2021_courtlistener.txt.
After saving
Search the saved file for the exact quote you plan to use. If the quote is not in the file, it does not go in your draft.
